2019: Kaduna PDP gov aspirants agree on consensus candidate1 min read

ADUNA—The nine aspirants seeking to pick Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship ticket for Kaduna State in the 2019 election have agreed to pick a consensus candidate among themselves in order to reduce acrimony that may arise from the conduct of party primaries.

Already, the aspirants have set up a committee, headed by the former governor of Kaduna State and also an aspirant, Ramalan Yero, to work out modalities on how the consensus candidate would emerge.

One of the PDP aspirants, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, who disclosed this during an interaction with journalists in Kaduna yesterday, said the decision to produce a consensus candidate was informed by the desire to present a united front to confront the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

The nine aspirants that have so far indicated interest to be candidate of the PDP include former governor of the state, Alhaji Ramallan Yero; a former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Isah Ashiru; a former Finance Controller of the Economic Community of African State, ECOWAS, Mohammed Sani – Bello, and a former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Sidi.

Others are Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jonathan Kish.

According to Mikati, if elected, Kaduna will become a state that will be the envy of other states as all the issues presently confronting the state will be frontally tackled.
