He’s known for his love of cravats and colourful suits, often getting mocked by fans for his daring outfits.

And yet MasterChef Australia’s Matt Preston certainly doesn’t let the criticism get to him and has even got in on the joke, by comparing himself to Barney and the likes of ‘a giant musk stick.’

Indeed on the grand finale of MasterChef Australia on Tuesday night, Matt certainly stood out in a bright pink velvet suit. 

The food journalist shared to Instagram on Tuesday a short clip of himself, joking that he looked like Barney in the outfit. 

‘Today I’m dressed as Barney!,’ Matt hilariously said.

Matt’s dapper look was tailored, and he wore a white shirt and cravat underneath his vest and jacket.  

Fans loved that Matt took the mickey out of himself, with one writing: ‘Always rockin (sic) it regardless!’

Another added: ‘Love, love, love the color on you.’

He also shared a shot of a pink lake, writing: ‘Me, tonight,’ before tagging MasterChef Australia.

Earlier this week for the show’s semi final, the 6ft 2″ star wore a fabulous purple suit, where some fans compared him to the likes of McDonald’s mascot Grimace and The Joker. 

He was even likened to two Charlie and the Chocolate Factory characters, Violet Beauregarde, who turns into a giant blueberry, and Willy Wonka himself. 

One Twitter user joked of the eyesore outfit: ‘Matt Preston looks like a 16-year-old at a school formal!’

While another fan at home Tweeted: ‘[Matt Preston] Brought to you by a field of lavender tonight’. 

But Matt himself was in on the fun, taking to both Instagram and Twitter prior to the semi-final’s airing to liken himself to a Violet Crumble.

He compared the suit and the coat portion of which reached past his knees, to a series of purple items.

It seems Matt likes to change up his look too and in March this year, thrilled fans when he shared a very hipster-like selfie. 

‘New look for MasterChef AU 2018? And yes, I woke up like this,’ Matt wrote, with his hair out and messy in the snap.

He also wore a blue and white striped T-shirt and layered beaded necklaces.
