Ariana Grande took down a rude Instagrammer with just two words this week, earning appreciation from thousands of her fans.
On Monday, the 25-year-old’s stylist shared a picture of Ariana and fiancé Pete Davidson out together in New York City.
While the image earned over 10,000 likes and plenty of fawning comments, it also sparked one critic’s nasty response.
Back off: Ariana Grande had a great comeback for a critic who said she was sick of the singer’s ponytail
‘I’m not’: Ariana (pictured in June) has worn some form of a ponytail since she became famous as a teen
The image shows Ariana wearing a white crop top, a khaki skirt, thigh-high boots, and an open plaid shirt.
Her hair, naturally, is styled up in the singer’s go-to ponytail, and she’s seen fingering her tresses in one hand while holding Pete’s hand in the other.
‘I’m sick of that ponytail,’ wrote commenter msloveydovey.
While famous people typically let criticism role off their backs, Ariana took the time to respond to this particular bit of negatively.
‘I’m not,’ she wrote back simply, earning over 2,500 likes for her reply.
Ariana has been wearing her hair in a ponytail for years. Though she used to wear it half-up and half-down, these days she’s wearing it all-up.
‘The pony has also gone through an evolution, and I’m proud of that,’ she said
‘It’s how I’ve always liked my hair. Picture me in fourth grade with a little half-up side-pony flopping around my head,’ she said
‘The pony has also gone through an evolution, and I’m proud of that,’ she told The Fader earlier this year. ‘Old pony? I don’t know if she’s that girl. But new pony? I like her. I mean, it’s like a Victoria’s Secret angel without angel wings. It’s still her without them, but when she’s with them it’s like, “Ohh, I get it, she’s an angel.”‘
Speaking to Byrdie in 2016, she added: ‘It’s how I’ve always liked my hair. Picture me in fourth grade with a little half-up side-pony flopping around my head… This is what makes me comfortable, and I feel like there’s a thousand different ways to do a ponytail. A million!
‘It brings me so much joy, honestly. Every time I put my hair up, it’s like a surprise. Like, I forget how much I love it, and then I tie it back and I’m like, “I love this look! Ooh, girl!” Every time I tie it up is like the first time. It’s like true love.’
Ariana has been bringing the clap-backs in a big way lately. Earlier this month, when a Twitter user shared judgement about her relationship and Justin Bieber’s engagement to Hailey Baldwin — insinuating that they were all just Scooter Braun’s puppets — Ariana answered.
Not standing by: Ariana has been telling off a lot of critics lately
Couple comebacks: Pete has also had his own clapbacks for critics, including one for someone who had something to say about this photo of Ariana wearing his dad’s FDNY pendant
MYOB: After someone called Pete disrespectful, the SNL star said, ‘My dad would be so happy and love her so much’
‘You do realize we are human beings who love and have lives… right…?’ she wrote. ‘And that Scooter is a wonderful human being too, who cares first and foremost about our health and happiness?’
Pete may be inspiring the singer to be more outspoken on social media, since he, too, has posted biting comebacks for those who’ve written inappropriate things about him online.
Last week, Ariana posted a photo on Instagram of herself wearing Pete’s dad’s FDNY chain around her neck. Pete’s dad died in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.
‘No girl should ever wear your dad’s chain. So disrespectful,’ chastised the critic, who seemed to think it was his business.
Pete answered: ‘For your information, that’s not just some girl. That’s my fiancée. She’s the greatest person I know. I gave it to her because she has my heart and that is the most precious thing I own. My dad would be so happy and love her so much.’
