Hours later, she seemed to have caught on to the online chatter and changed the caption to simply say: ‘NYC for 24hrs.’

Page Six reported that the entire fiasco prompted Kristin to take matters into her own hands as she ‘fired a social media staffer’ after the post went viral for all of the wrong reasons.

The person responsible for posting reportedly ‘took it upon herself to post the image with a modified caption’ and Kristin was unaware of the changes as she was in a fitting at the time.

Kristin wore a plunging black dress with a pair of heels and appeared to be standing on a city street in Manhattan.

She made sure all of her followers knew exactly who she was wearing by tagging various accounts, including her own brand Uncommon James, Alexander McQueen, Prada and Alexandre Vauthier.

The former Laguna Beach star also made note of her makeup artist Robert Sesnek and stylist Owen Gould.

Lily Aldridge seemed to miss the connection when she quickly wrote ‘Yessss mama’ on the photo with a host of lightning bolts, while users noticed it was the ‘wrong picture for the sentiment in the post’ and in ‘poor taste.’

Users were quick to take note of the marketing ploy on a day where millions of people around the world were in mourning.

One user wrote ‘this is super insensitive’ while another took note that the post was ‘just disrespectful and undermining the magnitude of the events that occurred on that horrific day.’

‘Seems like the spotlight isn’t exactly on September 11th here,’ another follower added.

‘Maybe today isn’t the day to market your brand or yourself.. in NYC. #disappointed,’ one user pointed out.
