A 46-year-old man has today been charged with murdering a mother-of-four whose naked body was found in a ditch.
Alena Grlakova was last seen on Boxing Day 2018 and reported missing in January by her family.
The 38-year-old’s body was discovered on April 8 in a dried-out stream bed near the Fitzwilliam Arms Hotel in Rotherham – the last place that she had been seen alive.
A post-mortem examination found she had died from neck injuries.
South Yorkshire Police have today revealed 46-year-old Gary Arthur Allen has been charged with her murder.
The mother-of-four, who was originally from Slovakia but had lived in Rotherham for 10 years, was reported missing on January 15 when she failed to make contact with her family.
Ms Grlakova was understood to have moved to Rotherham in 2008 ‘for a better life and education for her children’.
She was ‘separated from her family’ at the time of her death and was described as leading a ‘chaotic and transient life’, according to The Star
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton said: ‘I’d like to thank Alena’s family for their patience and support as we have carried out and continue to conduct inquiries in relation to her death. Specially trained officers are supporting them at this incredibly difficult time.
‘I’d also like to thank members of the public who have come forward with information so far.
‘We remain keen to hear from anyone with information, who saw Alena on Boxing Day 2018, and who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Taylors Lane area.’
The force said that Allen has been remanded into custody, and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today.
