Australian Associated Press

A man is behind bars, accused of spraying oven cleaner in the eyes of a police officer who tried to arrest him in Sydney’s east.

The 59-year-old man was spraying the oven cleaner on gates near the Mascot Police Station on Sunday afternoon when two officers tried to detain him.

Police say the man sprayed the oven cleaner on the arm of one officer before spraying the second in the face.

The officer was treated at Prince of Wales Hospital and has since been released.
