Woman is injured after being thrown 10ft into the air when marked police car smashed into her in west London crash

  • Woman hit by police car near Kensington High Street at around 10pm last night
  • She was treated at the scene before then being taken to central London hospital 
  • Video shows a large emergency service response in area following the incident
  • Her condition is not known and an investigation into the collision is underway  

A woman has been taken to hospital after being thrown ten feet into the air when she was struck by a police car in west London last night.

The marked car hit the pedestrian on Warwick Road in Kensington, west London, at around 10pm prompting a large emergency services response.

The woman was treated at the scene before being taken to a central London hospital. Her condition is not yet known.

Eyewitnesses said they saw a speeding police car, with its blue lights on, hit the pedestrian and throw her almost ten feet into the air.

Video footage shows police and ambulance crews in the area following the incident, with around 10 vehicles visible at the scene in the early hours today.  

More than 300 metres of road were closed in Kensington last night while investigations were carried out.    

The Metropolitan Police did not elaborate on the woman’s condition.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘At approximately 9.55pm on Tuesday,  August 13 a marked police car was in collision with a female pedestrian in Warwick Road, near the junction with Kensington High Street, W14.

‘London Ambulance Service attended and the female was treated at the scene before being taken to a central London hospital – condition awaits.

‘Road closures remain in place around the scene. An investigation into the collision is underway.’

It is not clear whether the police car was responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision. 

Scotland Yard said the Directorate of Professionals Standards had been informed of the incident.
