Officially our dear nation is in recession. Getting three square meals among the masses is a big novelty. The cost of living is so high that it takes extreme generosity to open a door to someone knocking your door when you are having your meals.
Fingers have been pointed in accusation, the latest pointed by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, credits the present economic recession we are all drowning in the country- to the demise of about 60% of our current national revenue. This according to him stems from the illicit expeditions of hoodlums vandalizing pipelines vandals here in the Niger-Delta.
According to the Vice-President who aired his opinions while taking questions from newsmen in Abeokuta. Osinbajo, who made startling revelations that Nigeria had been ripped off about 40% of the gas, however, still reflected an air of hope that it will not take long for the country to recover from its challenges.
According to the VP: “One of the key reasons why we are in recession is the fact that we lost about 60% of our revenue due to the vandalization of the pipelines on the Niger/Delta and we lost almost 40% of the gas. “I have a strong belief that by the grace of God, we will be able to resolve that. Once we are able to resolve that, we would at least be able to earn more revenue. If revenue grows up, it is an added advantage.”
The Vice President further remarked “these are challenging times, it is very obvious and we know the reasons. It is high level of corruption and we have dealt with that. We are controlling government expenditure. Once you can control corruption, we are out of it. I have a strong belief that this country is one that God has a hand in its affairs. In fact , the reason why President Buhari is in office is because God has a plan and hand in this nation, that this nation will be governed properly, that stealing of resources will stop, that we focus on issue of development.”
On approaches the nation has adopted to restore the nation back to its economic health, Osinbajo said: “In another couple of years, we will see the difference. All of us have a role to play in the change. Nigerians must be patriotic in our dealings and daily activities. We should be committed to the nation”.
Obviously things are getting much harder living here, our cooking pots are almost enjoying retirement as we cook less and less. We just hope things don’t get as bad that we start being served soaked garri in public parties!
These days not only business men are brainstorming.
