Everyone is talking about the increasing cost of living. People meeting their end in meet in their ends, the economy needs be injected with a series of policy syringes to kick back to life again at least. And what the governors are advising the president to do is to recognize and accept the strangling reality of the recession officially declaring it a national emergency.

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) thus charged the Federal Government to make an outright declaration of Nigeria’s economic recession as an urgent national emergency.

This approach was stipulated in a three-point communiqué read by Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari who is the Chairman of the Forum. The governors equally encouraged the FG to see this matter with the same urgency the previous administration tackled Lassa fever hence its success.

The governors had also come to the decision to stake state machineries behind the FG to maintain ongoing efforts to “reflate” the nation’s economy pulling us out of the current economic menace.

In line with to the communiqué, the governors have come to resolution to install state task forces deployed to the task of polio eradication, with the deputy governors assuming head of such units .

The governors also took the show to reaffirm their dedication towards offsetting payment of their states’ counterpart funds in a bid to fulfill their obligations demanded in the national fight against polio.

The truth is these situation calls for drastic quick political medication. This starts with the federal government being humble enough to call a spade a spade recognizing the malaise the common man is being burnt with. Thus if it be declaring a national emergency, so be it!
